Description
No. 37 Station Road, built around 1855, was formerly Harleston Station on the Waveney Valley Line. The railway, which began construction in 1851 and opened in 1855, was taken over by the Great Eastern Railway in 1863 and closed in 1960. The building is designed in an Italianate style and constructed of grey brick with a low-pitched slate roof featuring large shaped eaves brackets. It is two storeys high, with a window arrangement of 1:2:1. The outer bays are pedimented with brick pilasters. The first floor has round-headed windows, with the center window being smaller, while the ground floor features flat-headed windows, with the outer ones having brick architraves and cornices. A central round-headed doorway, topped with a cornice, is accessed by a flight of steps. There are brick chimney stacks, and a canopy over the platform on the north side has been demolished.
