Description

Old Hall Farmhouse is a late 16th century plastered timber-frame house located to the east, with an early 17th century painted brick wing on the south-west, creating an L-shaped plan. The building features a steep black glazed pantile roof with gabled ends; the south gable has a parapet and an internal brick stack with lozenge-shaped flues, while the east gable has an external brick chimney stack. It has two storeys and an attic, with an attic window in the gable end. The garden front showcases large three-light sash windows, some of which have glazing bars, along with a fine late 18th century doorcase that includes fluted pilasters, a fluted frieze, a dentilled cornice, a traceried rectangular fanlight, and a panelled door. There is also a one storey-and-attic outbuilding at the east end, which is plastered timber-frame with a pantile roof, likely dating from the 17th or 18th century. Inside, the south-west wing contains two early 17th century moulded plaster ceilings, with the first-floor ceiling featuring a frieze with a vine motif. Additionally, there is a notable 17th century staircase with turned balusters and massive turned newels. The west side facing the road was faced in brick in the late 19th century, and there is a modern brick extension on the north side.
