Description
The Croft is a 16th-century timber-frame house located in Forncett St Mary. The house has been plastered and has a thatched roof with half-hipped ends. A large brick chimney stack is positioned off-centre. The building comprises one storey and an attic. The ground floor now features modern casement windows. The attic gable incorporates a five-light ovolo-moulded mullion window with a carved cornice, moulded plaster, pendants, and modern bargeboards. Originally, there were windows with square-section diagonally-set mullions located under the eaves (now blocked). A later dairy is situated on the east end, with a modern porch adjoining. Internally, there are chamfered ceiling beams and joists, as well as chamfered fireplace bressumers.
