Description
The Old Rectory is a 16th-century timber-frame house that has been faced in buff-coloured brick during the early 19th century. An early 19th-century wing has been added to the east end, and the building is now divided into three dwellings.
The sections known as Nos 2 and 3 retain their 16th-century timber-frame structure, faced in brick, and feature a steep tiled roof. They are two storeys high with an attic, and have late 18th to early 19th-century two and three-light casement windows, along with two gabled dormers. The west end has a cross wing with a hipped roof at the front and a gabled roof at the rear, which includes a small gabled wing to the side that features a Venetian stair window. The interior of No 3 contains a stop-chamfered ceiling beam and a heavy moulded fireplace bressumer. There is also a rendered brick chimney stack that is off centre.
At the east end, facing east, is the late 18th to early 19th-century wing (No 1), which is built in buff-coloured brick and has a hipped slate roof with very wide eaves that have a bracketed soffit. This wing is two storeys high and consists of three bays, featuring sashes with glazing bars and flat rubbed brick arches. The central doorway has glazed double doors and a semi-circular fanlight.
