Description
Goodwin House, Japonica Cottage, and Rose Cottage are a group of buildings dating from the 17th century, featuring a timber-frame construction that is roughcast, with a steeply pitched gable-ended roof covered in black glazed pantiles. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and have four widely spaced windows, which include three and four-light wood mullion windows on the ground floor that are fitted with transoms. There are three old pedimented dormers with casement windows.
Both Rose and Japonica Cottages have panelled doors, with the top panels being glazed. Rose Cottage also features a brick chimney stack with diagonally set flues. At the western end, Goodwin House has a notable 18th-century addition that is positioned at right angles and faces west. This addition is roughcast with a steep hipped pantile roof and a modillion cornice. It has two storeys and three windows, which are sash windows with glazing bars. The central first-floor window is a large round-headed sash set within a Gibbs rusticated architrave. The central doorway is framed by rusticated pilasters and an entablature with a hood and keyblock, leading to a fielded panel door. The right-hand return facing the road has two sash windows with glazing bars.
At the rear of Goodwin House, there is an 18th-century roughcast wing that is also two storeys high, featuring two sash windows with glazing bars and a hipped pantile roof.
