Description

The Steam Mill is a 19th-century steam mill located on Carleton Rode Mill Road, built on the site of an earlier windmill. The building features a plastered clay lump construction with a flint plinth and a red brick gabled front, consisting of two storeys with an attic and three bays. It has sash windows with glazing bars and segmental arched openings, with a central door on each floor. The roof is covered with pantiles. A tall, detached chimney made of brick is situated on the north side, square in plan, and bears a datestone inscribed "RS 1854." There is a wing on the south side, which has a red brick front and is also made of clay lump, with a pantile roof and two storeys, featuring modern casements and a loft door. The original machinery has been dismantled, and the building has been converted into a dwelling.
