Description

Wilderness Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, with early and mid-19th century alterations and additions. It features a rendered timber-frame and red brick construction, topped with pantile roofs and brick stacks at the rear and internal gables. The building has a two-unit plan and has been extended, standing at two storeys with a single storey and attic. The main range includes a single two-light casement window on the right, with a six-panel door beyond it and a boarded twin-gabled dormer above. On the left end, there is another casement window and a 2/2 sash window, with a 4/4 sash window above. The rear has a door and a small casement window. A mid-19th century section has been added to the right, featuring a door and casement window, along with a loft door and casement above. Inside, there are ogee-stop chamfered ceiling beams, and an off-centre stack that may have been rebuilt in the early 19th century. The staircase, likely from this period, has simple Chinese fret upper balustrades. A full-height fitted corner cupboard from the 18th century is also present, with some framing visible. Copper remains in addition.
