Description
No 1 on Church Street is believed to date from 1637, although the date is now covered. This building is timber framed and has two storeys plus an attic, with a roof covered in pantiles. The front features an early 19th century red brick face and has coupled mutules at the eaves cornice. There are three windows with wood mullion casements that include horizontal glazing bars, and the ground floor windows have flat arches. The entrance has a Doric door case with pilasters. The gable verges overhang on hewn purlins. Inside, there is a wide fireplace with an exposed stop-chamfered beam and timber framing on the first floor, along with two-panel doors and hewn attic purlins. There is also a two-storey wing to the north that includes a loft and was formerly a stable. Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive) and No 7 form a group.
