Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, built around 1800. It is constructed of brick and has a shallow pitched slate roof with wide eaves featuring modillions. The building is double depth and has gable end internal stacks, with the east stack being renewed, each topped with five chimney pots. It has three storeys.

The north front faces the church and features three irregularly spaced windows, which are recessed sashes with thin glazing bars set under flat arches. The ground floor sash window on the right has been renewed, while there is a blocked opening to the left. The off-centre doorway is enclosed by a semi-glazed late 20th-century porch that lacks architectural significance. The entrance features a double-leaved six-panelled door, with the upper four panels being glazed, and is framed by a rusticated rendered brick surround with a semicircular headed doorway and jambs.

The symmetrical south front, which faces the garden, consists of five bays. The central three bays project forward, with the central bay extending even further. Rusticated brick quoins define each bay, but these only appear above the ground floor on the central bay. All windows are set under skew back arches with rendered keystones. On the ground floor, there are five double-leaved French windows with glazing bars and margin lights. The first and second floors feature recessed sashes with glazing bars, with five sashes on the first floor and sashes of three by two panes in bays one, three, and five on the second floor. Bays two and four contain dummy windows. The right-hand gable on the east side has a two-storeyed polygonal projection with flush sashes that include glazing bars, along with one dummy window.

Inside, there is a marble fireplace with a reeded surround located on the east side.
