Description
These are two cottages, formerly used as multiple occupation dwellings, dating from 1859. They are built of red brick with a pantile roof. The cottages are two storeys high, with attics, and have a cruciform plan, with a 20th-century addition to the west. The north gable of the cross-plan section features two single-light casement windows in chamfered wooden frames, flanking a prominent stack topped with a crow-stepped, battlemented gable. To the east, at a right angle, is another gable with a datestone and a five-light casement window on the ground floor, with a tiled porch set into the angle. The west-facing return has two three-light ground floor windows and two dormers. The windows are cross-windows, with the upper leaded panes cut into triangles by the barge board of the gabled heads. The spine of the cross plan has five ground floor casements and four dormers. A brick dentil eaves cornice runs around the building, and there are two clustered stacks with bases and copings. The west gable is crow-stepped. The cottages are listed for their contribution to the village green.
