Description
The building is a brewery or malthouse located 5 metres south-east of Crostwight Hall, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick and currently has no roof cladding, resulting in a partly ruinous state. The exterior is one storey high, featuring a west front with a central doorway flanked by one boarded window on each side. These windows are cross casements with roll moulded jambs. The rear of the building shows signs of blocked doors and windows. It has a gabled roof with gable heads supported by kneelers and platbands at the eaves line. The south gable is incorporated into an adjacent house and includes an internal end stack.
Internally, the building is divided into two sections. The southern part has a floor and a fireplace, while the northern part retains remnants of a high, full-height coved ceiling. On the north wall, there are three fireplaces: the central one features a depressed segmental arch, while the outer ones are round-headed. The roof structure consists of principals on tie beams, two tiers of butt purlins, collars, and straight windbracing. A new hall is attached to the south but is not of listable quality.
