Description
The house at Sharrington Hall largely dates from the 16th or early 17th century, with evidence of an earlier house on the west side. It is constructed of flint and brick dressed walls with a red pantiled roof. The north facade is symmetrical, with a central porch balanced by two stair turrets. The building is two storeys high. Mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights are visible throughout; one window to each floor of the west turret, two to each floor of the bay west of the porch, one to the porch’s first floor, and two to the ground floor and one to the first floor of the bay east of the porch. The west stair turret features two-light casement windows, and the west bay is blank. A four-centred plastered brick arch adorns the porch.
The interior is arranged with a through passage and screens that were partly remade in the 20th century. To the east is a kitchen range with a 20th-century staircase. To the west, a hall leads to a parlour. The west rooms on the ground and first floors retain unstopped chamfered cross beams and spine beams; the hall is an exception, featuring only a cross beam. Fireplaces have chamfered stone jambs and wooden bressumer beams. A first-floor room above the parlour contains a brick chamfered fireplace with plaster. There is considerable 17th and 18th century stile and mutuled panelling. The west turret staircase remains in place, while the east turret stairs have been removed.
The rear elevation includes a five-light mullioned hall window on the ground floor, along with three mullioned casements, one 18th-century three-light casement, and two sash windows with glazing bars. On the first floor, there is one mullioned casement to the west, five sashes with glazing bars, and a two-light wooden mullioned window.
