Description

No. 53 High Street is an early 19th-century, two-storey brick building that has been painted. It features three flush frame sash windows on the first floor, which now only have central glazing bars. The roof has a moderate pitch and is covered with pantiles. The shop front, dating from the mid-19th century, includes a central entrance and a display case with scroll consoles on either side. The building is noted to have once served as a herdsman's cottage adjacent to marshland. It is part of a group that includes Nos. 43 to 47 (odd), Peardene, Nos. 51 and 53, and Nos. 57 to 63 (odd).
