Description

Colne Cottage is an early 19th-century house, originally comprising three dwellings, situated in The Croft. The left (north) section is constructed of flint with rendered quoins and window dressings, topped with a black-glazed pantile roof featuring coped gable ends. It has two storeys, with four sash windows on the first floor possessing glazing bars. The ground floor features two large, projecting splayed bays built of flint and containing sash windows with glazing bars. A central moulded architrave doorway is flanked by an entablature with a reeded frieze and cornice, leading to a panelled door. A round-headed doorway is located on the left-hand side. The right (south) section is an early 19th-century semi-detached red brick house. It has a slate roof with coped gable ends, overhanging eaves supported by paired brackets, and two storeys. Five windows are present, with sash windows incorporating glazing bars – two on the first floor and one blind on the ground floor. A round-headed doorway recessed to the left features a semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars and a panelled door, accompanied by a similar door and fanlight immediately to the left. Two doorways are blocked on the right-hand side.
