Description

This is a terrace of houses located on Blackfriars Road in King’s Lynn. Numbers 1 and 2 of the terrace were destroyed by bombing in 1941, disrupting the original symmetry. Numbers 3-9 were built by 1846, and numbers 11-13 around 1850. The houses are constructed of brown brick with red brick detailing. The roofs are largely slate, with concrete tiles on numbers 4, 7, and 8. Numbers 3-5 and 9-13 are three storeys high with a basement, while the central block (numbers 6-8) is taller and includes a dormer attic. Each house has two bays, with entrances typically on the left side, except for numbers 10-13 which have entrances on the right. The windows on the first and second floors are positioned symmetrically and are not directly above the ground-floor windows. A continuous wrought-iron balcony, accessible through French doors, runs across the first floor, though the design varies for numbers 10-13. Red brick pilasters separate the houses. The central block projects forward. The panelled doors have stucco surrounds and overlights, although numbers 4 and 13 have 20th-century glazed doors. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, some with skewback arches, and some windows have been replaced with modern alternatives. Interior features include stick baluster staircases, panelled doors, and modest detailing. The area railings are a combination of cast and wrought iron and feature a variety of finial types with round-section verticals.
