Description

The White House is an early 19th-century farmhouse located on Bircham Road in Fring. It is built from gault brick and features slated roofs. The building is two stories tall and has three bays, designed in a Neo-Classical style with Greek Revival details. The ground floor includes a plinth, end strip pilasters, and an eaves level parapet, with the central bay slightly projecting forward and topped with a pediment.

The outer bays have two ground floor sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat rubbed brick arches, and feature recessed panels below. Above these windows are semi-circular brick framing arches that spring from a brick string course running across the bay. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, also under flat rubbed brick arches.

The central bay is highlighted by a stone porch supported by two unfluted, baseless Greek Doric columns on plinths, with three steps leading up to it. The porch has a flat roof, entablature, and frieze. The wooden doorcase has reveals with Greek Doric profile capitals, a four-panel fielded door (with the upper two panels glazed), and a simple low segmental fanlight with lead glazing bars above. There is a single sash window with glazing bars above the door, also under a flat rubbed brick arch.

The roof is low-pitched and hipped, set back behind the facade's parapet, and there are two gault brick stacks on the rear eaves. The returns of the building are made of whitewashed brick, although the parapet does not extend around the sides. At the rear, there is a two-story service wing, also constructed of whitewashed brick with a slated roof.
