Description

Chancery House is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 17th century, with a late 18th-century facade made of gault brick. The building is constructed of brick and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall with a dormer attic and features four bays. The entrance is a panelled door located to the left of the front elevation, sheltered by a hood. The ground floor has three sash windows with glazing bars, each topped by red-brick gauged skewback arches, while the first floor has four similar windows. A projecting timber eaves cornice adds detail to the roof, which is gabled and includes two gabled dormers fitted with sashes. Internal gable-end stacks are present. At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey cross wing with an attic, which is rendered above the ground floor. The rear elevation of the main wall has various 19th and 20th-century window and door openings.

Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with carved tread ends and round newels. The first-floor balustrade features turned balusters. The front room on the ground floor is partitioned, while the two rooms directly above include one to the north with large-framed panelling that has bolection mouldings, dating around 1700, and a moulded cornice. A 19th-century chimneypiece is present, flanked by cupboards with panelled doors and H hinges. The south room has similar panelling but lacks the bolection mouldings.
