Description

The gate piers at the north-east corner of the Abbey Precinct date from 1697 and are constructed from ashlar and rendered brick, topped with plain tiled roofs. Each pier has a square section and stands on an ashlar plinth. The east faces feature apsidal-headed recessed niches with block imposts and keystones. They are adorned with a wide overhanging moulded cornice and have low hipped roofs. The brick walls, which are partly rendered, sweep to the right and left to form the parapet of a bridge.
