Description
The Sedgeford War Memorial is a Portland stone structure located on Cole Green at the junctions of the B1454, Docking Road, and Fring Road. It features a tall needle shape, square in plan, that stands on a deep, wide, two-stage base, also square in plan, which displays incised inscriptions.
The main dedicatory inscription is found on the west face of the lower stage of the base, stating: "ERECTED IN MEMORY OF THE/ MEN OF SEDGEFORD/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918/ THROUGH DEATH TO VICTORY." The other faces of this stage continue with the inscription: "FOR KING & COUNTRY // THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE." On the fourth face, there is a later dedication that reads: "1939 - 1945/ OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ (6 NAMES)."
The names of those commemorated from the First World War are listed on the faces of the upper stage of the base, along with their rank and regiment, corps, or service.
