Description

The Pavilion is a theatre and pavilion built in 1901 by JW Cockrill, assisted by OH Cockrill. It is constructed of red brick with terracotta decoration and features copper roofs. The building has two storeys and the layout consists of an auditorium running north-south, with a lower aisle on the west side. At the south end, there is a higher rectangular block arranged transeptally, which includes four corner towers. Attached to the south of this block is a single-storey narthex with a balustraded terraced roof. The narthex features a mid-20th century entrance fascia under a hood and clasping side pilasters.

The towers of the transept block have 2-light casement windows on the main faces, set under terracotta arches adorned with shell designs. The balustrades below the four domes are topped with decorative iron cresting. The west return of the building has three arched doors and one blind door, which was formerly the principal entrance. The main south face at first-floor level has four 2-light windows with vesica shapes. The west side and the west aisle each feature three segmental windows with modified Perpendicular tracery designs, along with a fourth window on the north return. The main north wall has three paired lancets, while the east flank consists of seven bays, six of which contain 2-light windows with vesicae. The north bay includes an entrance porch. The interior has not been inspected.
