Description
The Cannons is a house with origins in the 17th century that was remodeled and enlarged in the 18th century. It features roughcast and whitewashed brick with roofs made of concrete tiles. The building has a double pile plan and a south facade that is two storeys high with a dormer attic, arranged in seven bays. The central entrance, which dates from the early 19th century, has a panelled door with inserted glazing and is framed by a bowed portico porch supported by two fluted and reeded columns, along with engaged columns. The fluting is designed with alternately rolled and sunk hollow mouldings. The early 19th-century sash windows include glazing bars. The gabled roof has three flat-topped dormers with casement windows, and there are internal gable end stacks. A stone eagle is positioned on the roof above the door. Inside, the house retains two 17th-century bridging beams that are tongue stopped and feature sunk quadrant mouldings, with several similar bridging beams also present on the first floor, all closely spaced.
