Description
The Barking Smack Public House is a public house built in 1845, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a gault brick front on the east side, and has a slate roof. The building is two stories tall and has a three-window range. The outer two bays are designed as two-story canted bay windows, which are fitted with 4/4 and 6/6 horned sash windows. The sills of the upper windows are tile-hung. There is a central 20th-century door, which has a panel to the left displaying a Lacon's Brewery hawk emblem and the date 1845. Above this is a parapet over a platband. The roof is shallow and hipped.
On the north side, there are three bays. A former central door has been blocked and converted into a window, flanked by a 6/6 horned sash on the left and a 6/1 sash on the right, both set in recesses. The first floor has three similar sashes, all under gauged skewback arches. The south side features a doorway, sashes, and a wall stack. Inside, the ground floor has been opened up to create one large room.
