Description
The Town Hall, dated 1856 on the foundation stone, is located on the north side of Market Place in Aylsham. It is constructed of red brick with a slate mansard roof and consists of one storey with a basement, flanked by two-storey side wings. The central block features a symmetrical facade with four sash windows, which are topped with cambered rubbed brick arches that include keystones. The building has rusticated brick corner pilasters and oversailing eaves courses. An advanced entrance bay at the center is adorned with a pediment, and the door surround is plastered with Ionic pilasters and a segmental pediment. The structure also has a stone plinth, a moulded and dentilled eaves course, and parapeted gables with stone copings. On the ridge line, there is a central octagonal ogee-headed vent, and the side wings are accented with rusticated brick corner pilasters. Additionally, there are two chimney stacks.
