Description
The Black Boys Hotel is an early 17th-century building located on the west side of Aylsham Market Place. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a black glazed pantile roof that is hipped on the south side. The hotel has two storeys and an attic, with brick pilasters and sash windows that include glazing bars. There are two flat-roofed dormers and a central bow window with decorative glazing, along with an entrance door.
A balcony with glazed double doors, which have a segmental head, is supported by Ionic pilasters and features internal railings. The building has a moulded and coved plaster eaves cornice and a shaped gable with an internal chimney stack on the north side. A moulded brick string course runs along the south wall, and there is a red brick and pantile wing to the west. Inside, there is a notable Jacobean staircase with two turned balusters per tread and coved tread-ends, although the interior has been much altered over time.
