Description
The Manse is a former manse built in the late 18th century, with later additions. It is constructed of brick and features a pantile roof, which is black glazed on the front pitch. The building is two stories high and has a lean-to at the rear with a catslide roof, along with a pair of stacks. The symmetrical facade consists of three bays of sash windows with glazing bars set beneath skewback arches. The entrance includes a part-glazed panelled front door framed by an eared doorcase. There is a later porch with jalousie vented sides and a gabled roof made of corrugated iron. A dentil cornice, made from paired header bricks, adds decorative detail. Inside, the original staircase features stick balusters, an open string, shaped tread ends, and a mahogany handrail. Throughout the interior, there are raised and fielded panelled doors. A notable feature is the principal chimneypiece, which has an eared surround and a moulded mantel shelf. The building has group value with the Oulton Congregationalist Chapel.
