Description
Itteringham War Memorial is a First World War memorial with additions for the Second World War, located in the churchyard southeast of the Grade II*-listed Church of St Mary. The churchyard also features the Grade II-listed Memorial to John Fish.
The memorial is made of grey granite and is designed as a rough-hewn, wheel-head cross with a tapering shaft that rises from a four-sided tapering plinth. The names and inscriptions are displayed on smooth, inset panels on the plinth, using leaded lettering.
The inscription on the east face of the plinth reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE/ MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918/ (7 NAMES)/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."
On the south face of the plinth, there is a dedication for the Second World War: "1939 – 1945/ (NAME)/ ROYAL NORFOLKS/ (NAME)/ ROYAL MARINES/ WE DEAD YOUR DAILY DEBT."
