TG 11 NW MORTON ON THE HILL NORWICH ROAD

2/35 North Lodges to Weston House, connected by railings, piers and gates.

Pair of identical lodge houses. Early C19. Yellow gault brick with limestone and stucco dressings. Shallow-pitched slate roof with pedimented gables. Moulded stone plinth, rusticated quoins. Central Venetian window recessed in a semi-circular headed opening; two Doric columns on pedestals with linking balustrade. Continuous Doric frieze of triglyphs and metopes surmounted by moulded dornice and, on north and south, gable pediments containing arms and motto. Facing the driveway, a centrally placed Doric portico in antis with semi-circular headed entrance door. Central chimney stack, with four attached square brick shafts with moulded linking caps. Plinth continued to form base for railings and gate piers : spear-headed iron railings with swept top rail and lower dog-rail with secondary uprights, also spear-headed. Rusticated stone gate piers with moulded cappings and ball-finials. Pair gates with double sweep to top rail, detailing matching the screen railings. Cast gilded medallion enrichment in each gate. Panelled gault brick screen wall to rear yard of each lodge.
