Description

This building, originally a house built in the late 18th century, has undergone several changes over time. In the early 19th century, the ground floor was remodelled to create two shops. Later, in the mid-19th century, it was converted into a temperance hotel, followed by further alterations after the Second World War to become a restaurant and café. As of 2024, it functions as a shop and café with residential accommodation above.

The building is constructed of rendered, roughcast and colourwashed brick and flint, with the ground floor featuring a mid-20th century mock timber frame. It has a pantile roof and a brick stack.

The exterior is a two-storey plus attic building arranged in five bays. The ground floor has three late 20th century shop display windows. The first floor showcases five six-over-six horned sash windows with exposed sash boxes. Above this is a dentil cornice, and the attic features four flat-headed dormers with two-light casements and square-pane glazing, all dating to the 20th century. The return side facing Cley Road has an off-centre casement window on the first floor, and a gable-end stack rebuilt in the 20th century. A rear wing was reconstructed in the late 20th century.
