Description
The Old Thatch is a cottage dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features a rendered timber-frame structure built on a brick plinth, topped with a hipped thatched roof that has a brick central ridge stack. The layout follows a lobby entrance plan and the cottage has two storeys.
The exterior includes a gabled pantiled porch with a 20th-century door. There are two sash windows on the ground floor, one on each side, both with glazing bars. The first floor has two sash windows as well, each with smaller top sashes that also have glazing bars. To the south, there is a pantiled outshut with a casement window, and a similar outshut on the north wall that includes a stack. The rear of the cottage has windows identical to those on the front, and there is a 20th-century pantiled roof outshut to the right.
Inside, some tall panel framing with corner braces is partly visible, along with back-to-back open fireplaces, one of which has been remodelled. There are also some old plank doors, and the principals of the roof are visible.
