Description

White Lodge is a house dating from the mid-18th century, constructed of painted flint and brick with pantile roofs. The building features two wings arranged in an L-shape. The north front has two storeys and an attic, with a seven-window range. The central three bays project forward beneath a pediment, and there is a half-glazed central door set within a timber doorcase that also has a pediment. The ground floor includes one 6/6 horned sash window in the fifth and seventh bays from the left, while the first floor has one 1/1 horned sash in the sixth bay and a 6/6 unhorned sash in the seventh bay. The remaining windows are blind, and there is a low parapet with a round window in the pediment. The gabled roof has two flat-topped dormers fitted with 20th-century casements, and there is a ridge stack to the left of center along with an external gable-end stack to the west, which was rebuilt in the 20th century. The east gable features a two-storey canted bay window with 6/6 unhorned sashes, where the middle sashes rise into glazed arches. The east side of the south wing has a four-window range lit by sashes of various designs. In the angle between the wings, there is a two-storey extension added in the 20th century. Inside, there is a stick-baluster staircase with a ramped handrail. The north range has chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops at the first floor. The east room contains a late 18th-century timber fire surround decorated with plaster Greek figures in the frieze. The roof structure includes principals and one tier of taper-tenoned butt purlins.
