Description
The Maltings is a former malthouse built in 1881, which was converted into flats between 1995 and 1996. The building is constructed of red brick and features slate roofs. It has a plan consisting of two parallel ranges with twin oven cones located at the north and south ends. The structure is two storeys high with a dormer attic and has a total of 30 window openings.
The exterior includes central gabled transepts that end on the inner facades, with gabled timber lucams positioned above the loading doors. The windows are primarily 2-light casements, and the north sections of both ranges have five flat-topped dormers. The gabled roofs are topped with pyramid oven cones at both ends, with the northern cones having been rebuilt in 1995. Inside, cast-iron columns support the malting floors.
