Description

Thorpe Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse with a colourwashed timber frame standing on a brick plinth. The north side has a 19th-century clay lump outshut. The roof is covered with black-glazed pantiles to the south and red pantiles elsewhere. The house is planned with a lobby entrance.

The south-facing front has two storeys and a dormer attic, arranged as a two-window range. A central 20th-century gabled porch contains a pair of panelled doors, flanked by pairs of two-light timber casement windows to each side. Above, there are two three-light timber casement windows, all beneath a continuous drip hood. Two flat-topped dormers are fitted with two-light casements. A stack is positioned on the rear roof slope.

At the rear, a two-storey outshut has a catslide roof and contains 19th-century two- and three-light casement windows and doors. A tall brick stack rises up through the roof of the outshut.

Inside, the south doorway leads to an entrance lobby containing a winder staircase within the stack bay. There are one four-panelled door to the right and one to the left. The west room has a chamfered bridging beam with tongue stops, as does the east room. The outshut has an east-west corridor with a plank exterior door to the west and a dairy at the east end, complete with timber shelving. A 19th-century single-flight staircase rises to the first floor. Both south rooms have four-panelled doors and single chamfered bridging beams with tongue stops. The winder staircase emerges into the front lobby between the two rooms. The attic has a boarded roof. One 18th-century three-plank door is fitted with strap hinges.
