Description
The Shadwell Estate Houses are three connected cottages built in the 1870s, with one currently serving as a Post Office. Constructed from brick, they feature a tiled gable roof and stand one and a half storeys tall. The cottages are arranged in a longitudinal range with a cross wing, displaying an asymmetrical elevation in the Jacobean style. Notable architectural features include round-headed doorways and flat-topped casements set under segmental arches on the ground floor, while the first floor has pointed arches with a decorative diaper of glazed tiles in the spandrels. The cross wing has a tall stepped gable, and to the right, there is a smaller gable above the roof line, flanked by a pair of eaves dormers. The end walls also have stepped gables, with external stacks, and there are three groups of ridge stacks featuring double shafts made of moulded brick.
