Description

The building at 56-68 Church End is a former workhouse, constructed in 1790 and later converted into a row of cottages during the 19th century. It is built of painted brick, with a steep pitched mansard roof covered in plain tiles. Four ridge chimney stacks are present. The brick eaves are dentilled, though now obscured by modern guttering. The upper floor has eight casement windows, while the ground floor has seven sash windows, both of recent manufacture, but retaining 19th-century stuccoed lintels. There are also seven plank doors. A central stone panel bears the inscription: "This Work House rebuilt Anno Domini 1790..."
