Description

This property, consisting of numbers 2 and 3 High Street, is a house that was originally divided into three dwellings. It was constructed in the mid to late 17th century and altered, with a reroof and extensions added in the 19th century. The building has a timber frame structure on a brick base, with rendered and weatherboarded exterior surfaces and a slate roof. It began as a three-cell lobby entry plan house, with one bay added to each end. The front of the building has five window bays and a plinth. There are recessed panelled doors with small hoods located to the left of the original centre and in the right bay. The left side of the building has two bays with 20th-century two-light casement windows. To the right, the ground floor has horizontal sliding sashes, while the ground floor of the original right bay and the first floor have cross casements. A single 3-light casement is present in the original right bay. A rebuilt axial ridge stack is located behind the entrance. Weatherboarding covers the left end and the rear of the property. A separately roofed two-bay block from the 19th century is located at the rear left, and a lean-to outshut with two stacks is at the rear right. The interior reveals some exposed timber framing, including stop-chamfered bearer beams with run-out stops. This property is included on the heritage register for its group value.
