Description
Tudor Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with parts rebuilt in the 18th century and altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed at the front, with rendered and roughcast infill. The house has a steeply pitched slate roof and consists of two cells with a lobby entry. It is two storeys high, with the earlier bay on the left having a higher plinth, close studding with a middle rail, and upper passing tension braces. The right bay is later and has smaller scantling with similar framing. There are two different sequences of carpenter's numbers on the studs that meet at the center. The entrance is located to the right of center in the later bay, and there are 20th-century two-light casements with leaded glass on the ground floor. A central ridge stack has been partially rebuilt on the right half. The right end is rendered, exposing the plates, and there is a 20th-century lean-to addition at the rear.
Inside, the structure includes cross axial bearers, one run-out and one stop chamfered, run-out chamfered joists, and jowled posts supporting cambered tie beams. The building is included for its group value.
