Description

No. 5 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century, which has been extended and altered in the 19th century. It features a timber frame that has been extended in brick, and the exterior is rendered and colourwashed. The house has a steeply pitched thatched roof, with slate covering the addition. It consists of one cell and two storeys, with an original lean-to outshut at the rear. The entrance is located to the left and features a recessed plank door. To the right, there is a two-storey 19th-century canted oriel window with one large light and three smaller lights, supported on shaped brackets. The left side of the building has 20th-century two-light casements and exposed front plates. There is a catslide roof over the lean-to outshut at the rear, which includes an entrance and a casement window. The right end of the house has exposed plates, and there is an external stack now incorporated into the 19th-century lean-to addition, which is one storey high and features a two-light casement, with the stack on the return. The lean-to is weatherboarded towards the rear and has a hipped roof. The numbered houses on High Street are not in a consecutive order, and No. 5 is not situated between Nos. 3 and 7 as one might expect.
