Description
The West Barn at Gurneys is a 17th-century barn that has been renovated in the late 20th century and now features a swimming pool inside. It has a timber frame resting on a red brick sill, with the frame exposed and brick infill panels. The barn has a steep old red scalloped tile roof and is rectangular with four bays, facing south. There is a short gabled wing on the north side, which was probably originally a porch. The barn includes small cast iron lattice windows, jowled posts, and long straight braces leading to the tie-beams. The roof structure consists of clasped purlins, with one purlin on each slope supported by inclined queen-posts inside and a collar truss at each gable.
