Description
The Old Rectory is a rectory house, now a private residence, built in 1831, as indicated by a dated shield plaque on the west side. It was constructed for Rand's Charity Trust, which is noted by another shield plaque with 'R/F.1706' on the chimney to the right of the porch on the north side, referencing the charity founded in 1706. There is a lower service extension on the east side added in the 1870s. The building features red brick that has been painted, with stucco bays designed to resemble ashlar. It showcases elaborate stucco moulded Gothic ornamentation, crenelated parapets, finials, and chimney corbels, all under steep pitched roofs. The tall two-storey house is entered from the north and faces the garden to the west and south. This early and unusually elaborate Gothic rectory house includes large casement windows, shafted chimneys, and projecting chimneys, some supported by decorated corbels. A rectangular two-storey bay on the south is flanked by moulded finials, and there is a two-storey gabled porch on the north. The interior features Tudor arched openings to the porch and staircase, with the main rooms arranged around a central lobby. The property was sold as a private house in 1959.
