Description
This is an 18th and 19th century shop and dwelling, altered in later years. It is constructed of red and brown brick with red brick dressings, and rendered areas. The roof is pitched, covered in slate and tile. The building is two storeys high with an attic.
The front elevation facing Tilehouse Street has two bays, the left bay originally part of the adjacent building at number 93 Tilehouse Street. A first-floor band runs across the façade. The first floor has an 8-over-8 sash window. The ground floor of the left bay has a casement window beneath a segmental arch and a small 3-over-6 pane sash. The right bay has a rendered ground floor with a large window comprising five separate casements in a wooden frame, featuring a deep frieze and projecting cornice. The first floor of the right bay also has an 8-over-8 sash window. The entrance to the shop is through a 19th-century door with glazed panels and an overlight, located within the elevation of number 94 Tilehouse Street, and benefiting from a flying freehold arrangement.
The interior features a vestibule with a short cast-iron baluster staircase. The ground-floor room is panelled with cornices. Some timber framing remains on the first floor. The attic has exposed rafters, plastered at collar level. The cellar is vaulted with brick and render groin vaults.
The building has group value with numbers 93-96 Tilehouse Street and 19 Bucklersbury.
