Description
This is a 17th-century barn located 20 meters to the east of the Old Farm House in Offley. The barn features a timber frame set on a red brick sill, with part of the frame exposed at the front and infilled with red brick. The exterior is generally covered with dark weatherboarding, and it has a steeply pitched roof that is now slated. The barn is tall and consists of six bays, facing south, with a gabled porch located at the second bay from each end. It includes jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, and a mid-height rail that is jointed in-line, along with tension braces in each bay. The roof is a clasped-purlin type, with two purlins on each slope; the upper purlins rest on high collars, while the lower ones are supported by convex-curved heavy inclined queen-posts that thicken towards the top. Long curved braces connect to the tie-beams.
