Description
Old Farm House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a rear extension added in the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a steep old red tile roof. The house is two storeys high, with a cellar and attics, and faces east. It has a two-cells, end chimneys plan, along with a parallel rear extension of similar size. The east front is symmetrical, with two windows on each floor, a recess over the central door, and two hipped dormers. There is a plat band and segmental arches, as well as two canted bay windows on the ground floor. The windows are casement style, and the panelled door, which has been renewed, is set in an early 19th-century fluted doorcase. There is a round-headed recess above the rear door and irregular fenestration. Inside the older part of the house, the ground floor features cross-beams, while the first floor has axial beams that span onto two cross-beams flanking the central stair. The kitchen/living room is located on the north side and includes a large open fireplace, with the west jamb rebuilt using spare Venetian bricks from the later 20th-century rebuilding of Kings Walden Bury. The parlour is situated on the south side and has a corner fireplace at the southwest, with a cellar located below.
