Description
23 and 24 Bancroft is a 17th-century house with two storeys. The upper storey overhangs and is supported at intervals by canted bays that project from ground level. It features a carved wooden cornice beneath a tiled gambrel roof, which has four dormers known as Yorkshire lights. The facade is plastered and includes four 18th-century windows, each with turn sashes in a single broad frame. There are two doors, each with six panels; the top pair is glazed while the remainder is fielded. At one end, there is a separate section that contains a carriageway, where the old half-timber construction can be seen. Number 24 has Neogeorgian shop bow windows and a glazed door, while number 23 features a canted bay and a 19th-century shop window. Numbers 21 to 28 form a group with these buildings.
