Description
Woodcott, located behind Number 1 Ashe Cottages on Albury Road, is an outbuilding that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 18th century or earlier and is a tall, two-bay timber-framed structure that was converted in the 19th century. The building is weatherboarded above a brick plinth and features a steep old red tile gabled roof with external gable chimneys at the rear of the ridge. It faces north with its back to the road, showcasing a half-glazed east gable door that was once part of a shop.
On the south side, there are two windows: a 2-light and a 3-light Yorkshire sliding casement on each floor. The gable door has splayed brackets supporting a flat hood. The north side has a deep plastered band below the eaves and a plank door leading into the kitchen in the western part of the building. There is one window on each floor. Adjoining to the north is a lower timber-framed weatherboarded barn, which has a steep roof covered in corrugated iron and a rear wall made of 19th-century red brick along the road. Woodcott is a prominent feature when approaching the hamlet from the south or west and is included for its group value.
