Description

The farmhouse at Manor Farm is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with extensions from the mid-17th century and alterations from the 19th century. It is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys, constructed from timber framing and covered in plaster, facing east. The older eastern range was originally a late medieval open hall, featuring a steep old red tile roof that is hipped at the south end and gabled at the north. There are visible plaster cracks that suggest the northern bay of this range may have jutted out on the west side. The east face includes two 2-light windows on each floor, arranged symmetrically around a blocked doorway that has been converted into a window. The southern bay has a small upper window and a wide 4-light low window that was once a double doorway, with modern diamond leaded wooden casements. A large external lateral chimney is located on the rear wall.

The mid-17th century northwest rear wing is two storeys high and features a large central chimney at the junction of the wings. Notably, it has a parlour and pantry planned side by side, dividing its width. There is also a 19th-century extension made of brick and flint with a slate roof, positioned in the angle of the wings, along with a tiled lean-to against the west gable of the northwest wing. An early 17th-century wall painting, depicting large and elaborate royal arms from the period of James I, can be found at the upper level in the northern end of the eastern range. The farmhouse is situated in a prominent corner position, enhanced by road widening.
