Description
The granary at Clintons, located 15 meters southwest of the house, dates from the 17th or early 18th century. It is a two-storey structure that is timber-framed and weatherboarded, featuring a dovecote in the roof space. The roof is steep, half-hipped, and covered with old red tiles, extending down over a timber frame and weatherboarded addition on the northern half of the western side. The building has a narrow central bay flanked by wide storage bays on each side. The lower floor has a line of central posts, each resting on an interrupted plate on the sill walls, with the wide bays supported at mid-span. The posts are stepped jowled and feature long curved braces. Inside, the upper floor is plastered on laths, and the loft has a clasped-purlin roof accessed by a central hatch. Small openings under the eaves are adorned with cross battens. This granary is part of a group of buildings at Clintons manor.
