Description
Dalmonds is a farmhouse, now a private house, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame set on a stuccoed brick sill painted black, with roughcast walls adorned with basketwork-pattern panelled pargetting. The steep old red tile roof extends as a catslide over a wide rear range. The house is two stories high and three windows wide, positioned at the back of a farmyard facing south. It has flush three-light casement windows and a lean-to door that leads up steps to a half-glazed central door. The basic plan is L-shaped, with a large chimney that has back-to-back fireplaces and an oven situated between the main house and the northeast wing, which is likely a kitchen. Inside, there is an axial beam and exposed joists, along with an exposed cross-beam in the eastern front room. The entrance leads into a passage that takes you to the stairs in the rear part of the house. A separate chimney backs onto this passage, providing heat to the western front room. The older fireplace is made of thin red bricks and features an oak lintel with roll-mouldings. There are also fragments of a moat present.
