Description

This is an early 18th-century coach house and stables, altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, and has been colourwashed on the east and north sides. It has an old tiled roof, with a parapet on the north side and a gable on the south. The rear slope (west) was raised and slated as part of rebuilding work to the rear outshut of the neighbouring property at Number 25.

The exterior has two storeys. The first floor features two loft openings and two openings on the north side. The ground floor has twin battened doors on the left and a central 6-panel door on the right.

Inside, the right-hand (north) ground floor room contains two stalls, divided by a ramped section added in the 19th century. The roof is a 3-bay queen strut design, with riven rafters and sawn rafters to the rear slope.

The coach house and stables form an important part of the setting of properties Numbers 21 and 23.
