Description
No. 83 Fore Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the early 19th century. It features an early 20th-century shopfront and a long showroom at the back, which was added in the late 19th century. The front of the building is stuccoed, while the rear is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. It has a hipped roof covered with Welsh slates, broad eaves with shallow brackets, and a panelled soffit.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a three-bay front, with rusticated quoins at the corners. On the first floor, there are three flush-set sash windows with margin glazing and architrave frames. The second floor has three slightly recessed sash windows, each with 12 panes. The ground floor features a full-width early 20th-century shopfront with plate glass windows, a recessed entrance, and a panelled pilaster on the left that has a console and an arched block flanking a canted fascia. Above this, there is a blind box and a cornice at the level of the first-floor sill.
The interior of the upper floors has not been inspected, and the long rear showroom is not considered to be of special interest.
