Description

114 and 116 Fore Street is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into offices. The building features a stuccoed front and west flank, while the rear is constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with Staffordshire blue brick used for flush bands and imposts. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, featuring shallow bracket eaves and a pommelled soffit at the front, and a hipped roof over the rear outshut.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a five-bay facade. On the first floor, there are five recessed 12-pane sash windows with moulded architrave stucco surrounds and sills supported by projecting blocks at each end. The second floor has five shorter 9-pane sash windows, with stucco sills and rusticated quoins on the left and right. The ground floor is rusticated and features four recessed 12-pane sash windows with stucco sills, along with a central doorway accessed by three stone steps. This doorway is flanked by Tuscan pilasters and has raised carved consoles, an entablature with a fascia that runs the full width of the building, and a triangular pediment with a heavy moulded cornice.

The right flank elevation has arched windows on the ground and first floors, while the second floor features flat-headed windows. All windows have moulded sills and impost bands, with arched drip moulds over the first-floor windows, beneath a moulded eaves cornice. The rear elevation of the main building includes sash windows on the second floor and long casements on the first floor, with a plat band at the second-floor level. The rear outshut has plate-glazed sashes, and the rear elevation features one sash window on either side of a corbelled chimney breast. The interior has not been inspected.
